An Overview of the Guide to Green Chemistry Experiments for Undergraduate Organic Chemistry Labs
This Guide has been developed as a partnership between Beyond Benign, My Green Lab, and MilliporeSigma, three organizations committed to promoting the adoption of Green Chemistry into chemistry curricula in higher education. We have collaborated to create this Guide with the hope that Green Chemistry will be adopted into undergraduate organic chemistry laboratories and beyond.
As such this Guide contains more than experimental procedures, the Green Chemistry: Principles and Lab Practices section can serve as both a primer for utilizing this Guide and as a resource bank for practicing Green Chemistry in any laboratory setting to reduce human health and environmental impacts of practicing chemistry. Learn more about the Guide in the overview document!

The Green Chemistry: Principles and Lab Practices can serve as both a primer for this Guide and as a resource bank for practicing Green Chemistry in any laboratory setting to reduce human health and environmental impacts.
Given the COVID-19 pandemic affecting in-person labs globally, we have created a virtual resource around DOZN 2.0 which can be utilized for remote instruction and serves as a preview to the scoring of experiments within the Guide. Additionally, check out the new open-access publication: Approaches to Incorporating Green Chemistry and Safety into Laboratory Culture to learn more about creating safer labs through Green Chemistry. Beyond Benign and My Green Lab thanks MilliporeSigma for supporting this open-access article!
The use of safer solvents is oftentimes the ‘low hanging fruit’ for implementing Green Chemistry Principles. We would love to ship you a Greener Solvent Guide magnet from Beyond Benign, please complete the request form to receive the magnet featured below!
The Beyond Benign Greener Solvent Guide of classically used solvents for teaching laboratories is based on select solvent selection guides and greener solvent alternatives available from MilliporeSigma.
