The Green Chemistry Education Challenge Awards aims to support the integration of green chemistry education into courses and curricula with financial aid to achieve impactful change. Strong applications will receive funding to achieve the following goals:
- Increase the awareness of green chemistry and the Green Chemistry Commitment (GCC) program across the chemistry department and institution.
- Increase awareness of the institution’s dedication to green chemistry education through conference attendance, webinars, publications, social media campaigns, etc.
- Transform curriculum and lab procedures to achieve the GCC’s Green Chemistry Student Learning Objectives so all chemistry majors, upon graduation, have proficiency in the following essential green chemistry competencies: Theory, Toxicology, Laboratory Skills & Application.

Award Description: Up to $5,000 dollars will be awarded to 10 Green Chemistry Commitment Signing Institutions to accomplish 1-year green chemistry projects that advance the teaching and learning of green chemistry. Funding must be used to drive awareness for Green Chemistry or support the adoption of Green Chemistry curriculum into chemistry courses, laboratories and/or outreach activities.

Funding Level: Ten (10) awards available, $5,000 USD each
Eligibility Requirements: Any higher education institution from around the world who have signed Beyond Benign’s Green Chemistry Commitment are eligible to apply for this grant. Grantees can submit applications, prior to signing the commitment, but only those that signed the commitment by their proposal submission will have their proposals considered. This funding call is open to faculty, students and staff with direct affiliations to Chemistry, Engineering, and/or Science departments. Cross-department collaborations are encouraged, but all applications must include at least one chemistry faculty member. Rolling applications, first review: October 31, 2023.
