A new initiative “by the community, for the community” jointly supported and developed by Beyond Benign and the ACS Green Chemistry Institute
Coming in 2023 – A Place for Everyone to Share, Connect, Learn, and Grow
After extensive consultations with the community (including educators from across the U.S. and around the world), Beyond Benign and the ACS Green Chemistry Institute are pleased to announce the development of a new online community space for green chemistry resource sharing, learning, collaboration, networking, and mentorship: The Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community (GCTLC). Set to launch in 2023, the GCTLC will create a much-needed central online hub through which community members (including K-12 and Higher Education teachers and educators, students, and industry stakeholders) can interact, connect, and learn from one another.
Building a Community of Transformation
The GCTLC will act as an online clearinghouse for green chemistry education resources and will help further support and solidify the existing community of practice within the chemistry education sector that has been growing and evolving over the past 30 years. By supporting educators in developing the skills to more effectively train the next generation of scientists and global citizens to think more sustainably and ultimately carry this knowledge on into their careers, Beyond Benign is helping to foster a Community of Transformation that can help solve the world’s most pressing global sustainability challenges.
Check out the presentation below by Beyond Benign’s Co-Founder and Executive Director Dr. Amy Cannon on the importance of Communities of Transformation and the GCTLC in supporting change in the education sector.
GCTLC Leadership Committee
The GCTLC Leadership Committee is a group of green chemistry education experts from K-12, Higher Education, government, and industry who are guiding and advising on the development of the GCTLC. These professionals meet regularly to discuss online community building, inclusivity and belonging of diverse community members within the platform, best practices in resource sharing and collaboration, and proposed operational and optimized IT functionality of the GCTLC. Their shared expertise and diverse perspectives are helping to create an equitable, safe and respectful online community experience for all community members.
