Université de Poitiers

At the University of Poitiers, students can pursue undergraduate and graduate studies in both fundamental and applied chemistry through a balanced approach that includes lectures, hands-on laboratory experience, and research involvement. The Bachelor’s degree introduces core concepts of green chemistry, while advanced learning opportunities are available in specialized Master’s programs offering three cursus: Green Chemistry, Catalysis and Environment; the EUR Graduate School in Green Chemistry, Catalysis and Environment; and the Erasmus Mundus program in Sustainable Catalysis.
Throughout the program, students engage with a wide range of topics, including green chemistry principles, the transformation of biomass into valuable products, the use of biopolymers and eco-friendly solvents, and the application of life cycle assessment (LCA) tools. Students also develop solid expertise in analytical chemistry (for both molecules and solids), as well as in organic and materials chemistry. A particular emphasis is placed on industrial applications, especially in the areas of heterogeneous catalysis and process engineering.
In addition, coursework addresses current environmental challenges through topics such as pollution mitigation and decarbonization strategies (development of sustainable energy technologies, including hydrogen generation, fuel cell systems, and carbon dioxide utilization). Overall, the program is designed to equip students with the scientific and technical expertise required to drive innovation in sustainable production methods and environmentally responsible technologies in chemistry.
