North Carolina State University

North Carolina State University (NCSU) intends to continue to embrace the principles of green chemistry in its science and engineering coursework, labs, symposia, student opportunities, and centers. Our campus offers a sustainability fund to challenges us to reimagine its landscape to accommodate energy savings, waste recovery, environmental compliance, and a future bioeconomy. We offer “Principles of Green Chemistry” as the centerpiece course for the undergraduate experience whose lab and ideology has percolated throughout campus consciousness as witnessed by the Green Chemical Engineering certificate offered to engineering majors. NCSU will continue to evolve its coursework and efforts at reducing its carbon footprint to ensure a viable, sustainable, and vibrant future for all of its stakeholders.

We are exploring the potential of incorporating basic green chemistry principles into our general chemistry laboratories; we are also looking at expanding our core undergraduate green chemistry course to the graduate students; at the university level, we are pursuing an academy of sustainability that will house the faculty and associated resources to implement in a more cohesive and equitable manner the principles of green chemistry to our campus culture and atmosphere.
