Instituto Federal de Brasília

The Instituto Federal de Brasília (IFB) is a public, multicampus institution within Brazil’s Federal Network of Professional, Scientific, and Technological Education. Established to expand access to high-quality education, the IFB integrates teaching, research, and community outreach while maintaining a strong commitment to regional development and social inclusion. Its campuses are distributed across the Federal District, enabling the institution to respond to diverse local needs through technical programs, undergraduate degrees, and continuing education initiatives.
A defining feature of the IFB is its alignment with sustainability principles, both in its academic offerings and institutional practices. Many of its programs—particularly in areas such as environmental management, chemistry, engineering, and agriculture—embed concepts related to resource efficiency, pollution prevention, and sustainable production. These themes are often framed within the broader context of Green Chemistry, which emphasizes the design of chemical processes that minimize hazardous substances and environmental impact. Through this approach, the IFB contributes to the training of professionals capable of addressing complex environmental challenges in Brazil and beyond.
Beyond the curriculum, sustainability is also reflected in the IFB’s research and outreach activities. Faculty and students frequently engage in applied projects focused on water treatment, waste management, renewable energy, and sustainable technologies tailored to local communities. These initiatives often involve partnerships with public agencies, schools, and small enterprises, reinforcing the institution’s role as a driver of sustainable development at the regional level. Such efforts are closely aligned with global frameworks like the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), particularly those related to quality education, clean water, responsible consumption, and climate action.

We hope to create and host an annual Green Chemistry symposium in collaboration with other Brazilia GCC signers;
We currently are using all Beyond Benign’s online resources, all the GCTLC online resources, and all the ACS GCI online resources. In addition, we use the translated version of the textbook Green Chemistry – Theory and Practice.
