Federal University Oye-Ekiti

Many of the research projects undertaken by our faculty and students at the Chemistry Department, Federal University Oye-Ekiti, align with the principles of green chemistry. Recently, in collaboration with the Environmental Management and Toxicology Department, we have developed a strong focus on sustainable environmental chemical practices through a new course (EMT410: Atmospheric Chemistry and Air Pollution) to complement the University’s Environmental Studies program. Inspired by advancements in green chemistry, we are committed to further integrating its principles into our curriculum and refining laboratory experiments to emphasize sustainable and eco-friendly chemical processes.

To integrate green chemistry principles into its curriculum to foster environmental consciousness among students and organise faculty workshops to ensure faculty members are equipped with the necessary knowledge.
In the long term, FUOYE hopes to establish a dedicated green chemistry research centre, positioning the institution as a leader in sustainable chemical practices. The university will further institutionalise sustainability efforts through institutional policies prioritising green chemistry in areas such as procurement, waste management, and laboratory operations. Furthermore, the institution will engage with local industries and communities to extend the impact of green chemistry beyond the campus, fostering collaboration and promoting sustainable practices on a broader scale.
