How did you connect with Beyond Benign?
I connected with Beyond Benign in 2014 as part of Grand Valley State University’s Green Chemistry Commitment, as well as, Beyond Benign’s early partnership with Steelcase.
What first drew you into teaching and science education?
“Education is not filing of a bucket, but the lighting of a fire.” This William Butler Yeats quote, succinctly describes my belief about science education. With every lesson that I teach, I aim to excite and engage my students and expose them to the amazing physical world around us and how it works. This goal, or quest, is what has always drawn me into teaching and learning.
What excites you most about teaching green chemistry?
Green chemistry has so much potential to be incorporated into how chemical education is taught. I love the goal that the “green” label be removed from “green chemistry” and that eventually chemistry will just by nature be taught in a fashion that is green.
