Beyond Benign is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a green chemistry education community that empowers educators to transform chemistry education for a sustainable future. Beyond Benign is seeking a professional individual for a new position as Technical Program Manager/Developer. Reporting to the both the Director of the Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community (GCTLC) and the Director of Operations, the Technical Program Manager/Developer will be responsible for supporting the development and management of Beyond Benign’s cyberinfrastructure and online platforms as well as data management and reporting across the organization’s various programs.
Specifically, the Technical Program Manager/Developer will liaise with developers and technical vendors to manage upgrades and improvements to online platforms, undertake small coding and development work, develop dashboards and views for reporting and improving the user friendliness of various sites, and troubleshoot/problem-solve technical issues that arise. The Technical Program Manager/Developer will also manage Beyond Benign’s large data sets (including data health, integrity and clean-up) and support analysis and reporting of data to Beyond Benign’s funders.
The Technical Program Manager/Developer will therefore require a mixed but complementary skillset with a strong background in project management, web development, coding, data management, and reporting and analysis. A background in chemistry or STEM is preferred.
Responsibilities
The incumbent will work closely with the Director of the GCTLC and the Director of Operations to:
- Manage the day-to-day operations and ongoing maintenance of the GCTLC platform (Drupal and CiviCRM).
- Undertake small coding and development projects for the GCTLC and potentially other sites as needed.
- Liaise with technical vendors and manage cyberinfrastructure improvement projects, coordinating with internal and external stakeholders.
- Manage and oversee user acceptance testing (UAT) for Beyond Benign’s online platforms and web development projects
- Develop dashboards, views and pages to improve reporting and user experience
- Build and configure online courses in LearnDash (WordPress) based on finalized course designs and content outlines
- Manage large datasets and databases, including data health and integrity
- Analyze data and communicate insights to team members and stakeholders
- Support reporting, performance measurement and evaluation

Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in relevant subject (including computer science, data management, STEM degree, etc.).
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in Program/Project Management, or equivalent experience, is desirable, including leading the delivery of project milestones within project timelines.
- Background in web development, data management, data analysis and reporting is essential.
- Strong proficiency in Excel, including advanced functions for data analysis and visualization.
- Attention to detail and excellent organizational, verbal and written communication skills are essential.
- Must have demonstrated ability to plan, execute, and track metrics for multiple projects simultaneously.
- Must be a strong team player, collaborative, and able to understand and respond to the needs of the education community.
- Must be eager to learn, connect with others, ask questions, and align with Beyond Benign’s values and mission.
Preferred Qualifications:
- A background in chemistry or the physical sciences is desirable.
- A passion for sustainability and education.
- Experience using Excel, WordPress, Drupal, and/or CRMs.
- Competence in coding languages (CSS, HTML, Javascript, etc.).
- Familiarity with data management, reporting and/or visualization tools such as Google Analytics, Microsoft PowerBI or Tableau.
- Experience managing vendor relationships.
- Leadership, communication, and administrative experience is beneficial, specifically within the academic or not-for-profit sectors.
- Knowledge of digital privacy laws, online security and data protection regulations.

Terms: This is a full-time, 2-year contract position with the possibility of extension depending on funding and performance. The incumbent will be supervised jointly by the Director of the GCTLC and the Director of Operations.
