Description: The Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community (GCTLC) is a new online platform that provides a central location for the green chemistry education community to connect, network, collaborate, learn, share and grow together. Launched in October 2023, the GCTLC includes a searchable database of curriculum resources, an events calendar, a job board, discussion forums, group spaces (launching soon), and more.
As a platform created “by the community, for the community,” the GCTLC’s structure, format and content have been deeply influenced by the education community. To ensure that community voices continue to guide its direction, the GCTLC seeks a new Chief Moderator to oversee networking, collaboration and connection spaces on the platform. The Chief Moderator will work closely with the GCTLC administrators and Beyond Benign team to lead and support forum and group moderators on the site, manage the submission and review of requests for new groups, oversee the health and growth of existing groups and relationships, support the growth and development of the GCTLC’s events calendar and job board, help with functional testing of the platform (including new collaboration functionality), and more. A background in community building is highly desirable. A background that includes equity and diversity knowledge and/or training is also desirable for sustaining a strong sense of belonging and creating healthy and supportive connections within the GCTLC.

Key Responsibilities:
- Manage the submission and review of new group requests.
- Lead and support forum and group moderators on the platform, including running regular virtual meetups, trainings and orientation sessions.
- Oversee the growth and health of networks, groups and relationship building on the platform.
- Host weekly virtual office hours for the GCTLC community.
- Work closely with the Senior Program Manager at Beyond Benign on moderation and community issues.
- Work closely with Beyond Benign and the GCTLC team to help lead and develop community engagement and community building programs and activities on the GCTLC.
- Present quarterly updates to the GCTLC Advisory Committee.
- Support calls for new groups and moderators.
- Help develop platform documentation, content (including events and job postings) and training materials as necessary.
- Manage the chief_moderator@gctlc.org email account.
Qualifications:
- Required: A postsecondary degree in chemistry/education, teaching experience (all levels considered), experience in community and relationship building (essential), experience in group moderation, time management skills, and ability to work independently and in teams.
- Preferred: Masters or Ph.D. in chemistry, experience leading networks of educators and/or researchers, experience with online communities of practice, and knowledge and/or training in equity and diversity in teaching/education/community building.
