Position Title: Chief Program Officer (CPO)

Position Overview
Beyond Benign is a nonprofit organization whose mission is to foster a green chemistry education community that empowers educators to transform chemistry education for a sustainable future. Beyond Benign is seeking a professional individual for a new position as the Chief Program Officer (CPO).
The Chief Program Officer (CPO) will report directly to the Executive Director and will be responsible for overseeing the organization’s K-12, Higher Education, and Green Chemistry Teaching and Learning Community (GCTLC) programs/platform. The CPO will ensure these programs align with the organization’s mission, goals, and strategic vision. This role requires strong leadership, strategic planning, and program management skills to drive educational excellence and innovation.
Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership:
- Develop and implement program strategies for K-12, Higher Education, and GCTLC initiatives.
- Collaborate with the Executive Director and Chief Operating Officer to shape the organization’s overall strategic direction.
- Ensure program goals align with the organization’s mission and strategic priorities.
- Program Management:
- Oversee the planning, implementation, and evaluation of all K-12, Higher Education, and GCTLC programs.
- Ensure programs are delivered on time, within scope, and within budget.
- Monitor program performance and outcomes, using data to drive continuous improvement.
- Develop and manage program budgets, ensuring financial sustainability and accountability.
- Implement and maintain program policies, procedures, and standards.
- Team Leadership:
- Lead and manage program directors and staff, fostering a culture of collaboration and high performance.
- Provide coaching, mentoring, and development opportunities to team members.
- Ensure effective communication and coordination among program teams.
- Stakeholder Engagement:
- Build and maintain strong relationships with key stakeholders, including educational institutions and organizations, community partners, and funders.
- Represent the organization at events, conferences, and meetings to promote programs and partnerships.
- Work with the COO to identify funding opportunities and secure resources to support program initiatives.
- Support the preparation of grant proposals, reports, and other funding-related documentation.
- Conference Attendance and Networking:
- Attend chemistry education conferences and relevant industry events to foster relationships with community members and stakeholders.
- Stay informed about the latest trends and advancements in green chemistry education in higher education.
- Utilize insights gained from conferences to inform program development and strategy.
- Thought Leadership:
- Establish and promote the organization as a leader in green chemistry education.
- Publish articles, white papers, and other materials to share knowledge and insights.
- Present at conferences and other forums to advocate for green chemistry education and the organization’s initiatives.
Qualifications
- Education and Experience:
- Master’s degree in Education, Nonprofit Management, or a related field; PhD preferred.
- Minimum of 10 years of experience in program management and leadership, preferably in an educational or nonprofit setting.
- Proven track record of successful program development and implementation.
- Skills and Competencies:
- Strong strategic planning and organizational skills.
- Excellent leadership and team management abilities.
- Outstanding communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to build and maintain relationships with diverse stakeholders.
- Proficient in data analysis and performance measurement.
- Experience managing budgets.

Compensation: Salary is negotiable and will be based on experience and qualifications. Benefits package/PTO available.
