Sarah Boudreau is a 4th year PhD candidate at Memorial University of Newfoundland (MUN), NL, Canada, supervised by Prof. Francesca Kerton. She is originally from Petit de Grat, NS, Canada, a small Acadian fishing community on the east coast. Sarah graduated from Cape Breton University (CBU), NS, Canada in 2021 with a BSc (Honours) in Chemistry. During her undergraduate program, she was a student researcher who studied the extraction of birch bark-oil (Maskwiomin) with Dr. Matthias Bierenstiel using an Indigenous Two-eyed seeing approach. She is currently an Ocean Graduate Excellence Network (OGEN) scholar who works in collaboration with the National Research Council of Canada (NRC) to transform wasted by-products of the seafood industry to nanomaterials with applications in high-value sectors. While at MUN, she has been involved with organizing the local IUPAC Global Women’s breakfast and a symposium for the Global Conversation on Sustainability. Sarah is particularly interested in applying the principles of Green Chemistry to help achieve a circular economy and net zero goals.
