SUMMARY:Pop-Up PD Event: Moving Forward\, Together-A STAO Experience
DESCRIPTION:Science Teachers’ Association of Ontario (STAO) is hosting a Pop-Up Virtual PD Event: Moving Forward\, Together – A STAO Experience. \nSaturday\, November 27\, 2021 10:15-11:15 AM \nJoin Ken Hoffman as he represents Beyond Benign leading session\, “Greening the High School Chemistry Lab” during the Education for Sustainable Development strand. \nA day will come when we no longer have to preface “chemistry” with “green”. This hands-on session furthers that goal by providing teachers with classroom resources to minimize the environmental impact of student chemistry experiments and develop a more sustainable course of study through sustainable green chemistry principles. \nAudience: Secondary (11 to 12)\, Intermediate (9 to 10) \nRegistration information will be available at: https://stao.ca/ \n

SUMMARY:Green Chemistry Connections
DESCRIPTION:Register now to join us! \nBeyond Benign will be hosting bi-monthly Green Chemistry Connections around Green Chemistry education using the Green Chemistry Students Learning Objectives from the Green Chemistry Commitment program as a loose framework. The topics for discussion will be Green Chemistry theory\, toxicology\, laboratory skills\, and application of Green Chemistry education. Each time we meet\, we will host up to 4 speakers from the community who are actively practicing Green Chemistry in their courses and/or laboratories\, as well as give time for discussion in small groups along with networking and resource sharing. \nWe ask that you BYOR\, bring your own resource or request to the community – share a resource or put a request out to the group for resources you need. \nWe invite you to bring your departmental colleagues\, external collaborators\, graduate teaching assistants\, etc. to the discussion as we will be holding this space and time monthly for the community to come together around Green Chemistry education to advance the field together virtually! \nRegister now to join us! \nAfter registering\, you receive more information about the Green Chemistry Connections via calendar invite and emails as the meeting time approaches as well as access to our Google Site the virtual home of the Connections to stay connected with the community between live meeting times. \nSponsor the Connections! SUMMARY:Toxicology for Chemists: Integrating Toxicology Principles into Higher Education Chemistry Courses
DESCRIPTION:Register for this event here! \n“A current key sustainability challenge is that scientists are not trained how to address hazards when designing chemical products. Specifically\, chemists lack training in toxicology: what makes a molecule hazardous to human health and the environment?” \nTo discuss these and other questions\, join our Higher Education Program Manager Dr. Nimrat Obhi on February 18th @ 2:00 PM (ET) during her presentation at the Two Year College Chemistry Consortium (2YC3)\, where Nim will provide an overview of our Toxicology for Chemists curriculum. This has curriculum has been developed by a group of key experts and contains lectures\, supplementary material\, and additional resources to allow educators and current and future scientists to understand and practice chemistry that is safe and responsible for society. In this talk\, Nim will show us how the course modules can be used\, and the support that Beyond Benign can provide to educators who want to implement elements into their courses.
