DESCRIPTION:In a time that demands flexible thinking\, there is an opportunity to bridge science and art in new ways. Eric Nash is an artist\, green chemistry leader\, and high school teacher who brings his drawing into the classroom through creating coloring books\, DIY paper models\, and hands-on green chemistry labs. While transitioning to 100% virtual teaching\, Eric utilizes COVID examples and critical thinking challenges to promote student collaboration and exploration. Eric will share ready-to-use direct-to-student videos\, lesson plans\, and print out models for online learning.  Listen to him share his solutions to teaching chemistry virtually\, and how art plays a role in communication complex concepts. \nREGISTER HERE

SUMMARY:Green Chemistry Workshop
DESCRIPTION:This one-day workshop presented by a local Beyond Benign Green Chemistry Lead Teacher\, Jim Burdick\, will provide attendees with an overview of green chemistry\, how to incorporate green chemistry into a Regents or middle school classroom\, an introduction to green chemistry curriculum resources that replace hazardous chemicals in the classroom\, and also provide a context for teaching chemistry through the lens of green chemistry with greener technologies. Attendees will receive paper and digital materials as well as participate in several lab activities that can easily be used in a Regents Chemistry or middle school science class. Attendees should come with paper or digital copies of labs that could be “greened” or made less hazardous. Remember\, even acceptable risk can still be minimized to no risk. Please dress appropriately to work in a lab.
