SUMMARY:The 11th Annual GCM x GCI Symposium: Lab to Landfill
DESCRIPTION:Hear from Dr. Juliana Vidal\, Beyond Benign Senior Program Manager\, at this event hosted by two Green Chemistry Commitment signers! The annual Green Chemistry Initiative (GCI) Symposium\, co-organized by Green Chemistry McGill and the Green Chemistry Initiative at the University of Toronto\, connects students\, post-doctoral fellows\, and faculty interested in green chemistry with current leaders to discuss advances in chemical processes and the future of sustainable research. \nThis year’s symposium\, Minimizing Waste from Lab to Landfill\, emphasizes that even small daily decisions we make in the lab can reduce the chemical waste our institutions produce. Speakers from both academia and industry will discuss reaction optimization with lower solvent volumes\, lower reaction temperatures\, lower overall energy use\, and safer reagents\, highlighting that efficient chemistry is green chemistry.

SUMMARY:Canadian Societies for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering 2026 Conferences and Exhibition (x2026)
DESCRIPTION:Members of the Beyond Benign team and community will be at the Canadian Societies for Chemistry and Chemical Engineering Conference and Exhibition 2026 (x2026). This year’s conference\, centered on the theme “Erasing Boundaries\,” features technical sessions\, workshops\, and keynotes that explore the challenges and opportunities within the fields of chemical science\, technology\, and engineering.  \n \nIf you are attending the conference\, please join us for a Workshop on Green Chemistry in Teaching and Laboratory Instruction on May 25th from 8-11 a.m. EDT. This session will introduce green chemistry and the 12 Principles through examples of how green chemistry can be taught and assessed across undergraduate chemistry curricula in both classroom and laboratory settings.  \nThe workshop will also explore upcoming changes to accreditation guidelines in Canada related to green chemistry and sustainability\, and create space for discussion of common challenges and practical ways to overcome them. Participants will leave with tools\, frameworks\, and resources to help adapt and implement green chemistry content across the undergraduate chemistry curriculum.  \nFeatured speakers:\n\nDr. Monica Soma Hensley (Beyond Benign)\nProf. Barb Morra (University of Toronto)\nDr. David Laviska (ACS Green Chemistry Institute)\nProf. Kylie Luska (University of Toronto)\nDr. Jonathon Moir (Beyond Benign)\nProf. John De Backere (University of Toronto)\n\n👋 The workshop is open to all x2026 attendees interested in chemistry instruction\, including faculty\, lecturers\, students\, and EH&S staff. Space for the workshop is limited\, so sign up early to secure your spot! Workshop registration is separate from event registration.
